Happy Birthday Art Chantry #1

Ready For War, 1980s
Design: Art Chantry
When I lived and worked in Seattle, Art Chantry was one of my colleagues. We worked together on The Rocket magazine (I was the editor and he was the art director), and I wrote the introduction for his first book, Instant Litter, a collection of Seattle street punk and new wave posters. Art’s poster, publication, and LP cover designs have been a major source of inspiration for me since the early 80s, and I never cease to be amazed at his endless source of creativity and new ideas. He also has always been an amazing supporter and mentor to art directors of all kinds (myself included). Art has probably been the #1 influence on whatever graphic design sensibilities I have, and I’m glad to be able to wish him a very happy birthday (and countless more) today. We’ll be showcasing the poster designs of Art Chantry all day.
