Reader’s Digest front and back cover, February 1963
“Winter Feast,” illustration: Arthur SingerSinger was one of America’s best known bird painters who illustrated numerous books on birds. In the 1980s, with his son Alan D. Singer, he created the birds and flowers of the 50 states stamp series for the U.S. Postal Service. According to The New York Times, the stamps were “believed to have been the largest-selling special issue in the history of United States postage.” (The stamp series was art directed by noted graphic designer Bradbury Thompson.)
