The Liberator, April 1920. Cover art: Boardman Robinson.
The Liberator, edited by Max Eastman and his sister Crystal, was published from 1918-1924. Based in NYC, it was the successor to The Masses, which Max Eastman also edited. The Liberator was an avowedly socialist magazine, and published notable writing, reporting, and political art. Marxists.org has an extensive online collection of The Liberator, including complete scanned issues. It’s essential viewing and reading for anyone interested in radical American history or political illustration.
