This was a preseason game in the Western Interprovincial Football Union, a precursor to the Canadian Football League, which started up the following year. The Lions won their opening game of the season and then dropped eight straight games on their way to a 4-11-1 season. Calgary went 6-10 but made the playoffs, only to lose to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
